Russian, Belarusian athletes will not take part in Paris Olympics opening ceremony

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have both made decisions regarding the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the upcoming Paris Olympics. According to multiple articles, Russian and Belarusian athletes who are approved to compete will not be allowed to take part in the traditional parade during the opening ceremony. Instead, they will be given an opportunity to "experience the event" on site but will not be included as passengers on the boat parade on the River Seine. The IOC's decision follows the IPC's announcement of a ban for athletes from these countries in the Paralympic opening ceremony on August 28. Both committees have implemented these measures in response to the ongoing political situation.
