Trump voices 'strong support' for IVF treatments after Alabama ruling
Donald Trump has called on Alabama lawmakers to find an immediate solution to preserve access to IVF treatments in the state. Trump's statement marked his first comment on the issue since the ruling and expressed his strong support for the availability of fertility treatments like IVF across America.
Republican candidate Kari Lake also voiced her backing for expanded access to IVF treatment. The IVF process typically involves creating multiple embryos, some of which may be discarded due to genetic testing. A major infertility association reported that some embryo shipping services have stopped transporting embryos to and from Alabama as a result of the ruling. At least three fertility clinics in the state have paused their services rather than risk liability.
The Alabama Supreme Court's decision has caused division among Republicans, with some expressing concerns about the implications for reproductive rights and access to healthcare. The Biden campaign accused Trump of trying to whitewash his past actions regarding this issue.
