Israel-Lebanese Hezbollah Conflict
Israeli Airstrikes Deep Inside Lebanon After Drone Downing
Israeli military reported conducting airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon in response to the downing of an Israeli drone. The strikes targeted Hezbollah air defenses and resulted in the death of at least two Hezbollah fighters and injuries to six other people according to the mayor of a nearby city. Baalbek, a UNESCO World Heritage site located 18 kilometers (11 miles) from where the strikes occurred, was affected. Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced plans for increased attacks even if a cease-fire is reached. There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah regarding the strikes. These strikes mark one of the deepest Israeli incursions into Lebanon since the ongoing conflict with Hamas began over four months ago.
