2024 European Elections
Germany's AfD expelled from far-right EU parliamentary group
The Identity and Democracy (ID) group, a pan-European parliamentary group comprising far-right parties, has expelled the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) from its ranks. The decision comes after AfD's lead candidate in June's European elections resigned from the party leadership and amid concerns over ties to China and Russia by AfD's Maximilian Krah. Specifically, Krah had to fire a senior staff member who was arrested on suspicion of spying for China, raising questions about his own connections to both countries.
The ID group cited its desire not to be associated with incidents involving Krah, including comments he made to an Italian newspaper and the charges against his aide.
