European Parliament Convenes with Bolstered Right-Wing Presence

The European Parliament has re-elected Roberta Metsola as its speaker, with tensions running high ahead of the start of the new five-year term. The parliament is set to meet for its first session since the June elections, which saw significant changes in representation. Notably, about 46% of the newly elected MEPs are not serving their first term. On July 16, the 720 elected representatives will officially take office and begin their duties, with many familiarizing themselves with the Strasbourg building where they will meet 12 times a year.
