Former Syrian military officer faces war crimes charges in Swedish court

A Swedish court is currently trying Mohammed Hamo, a 65-year-old former Syrian army officer, for allegedly aiding and abetting war crimes. The conflict between the regime of President Bashar al-Assad and armed opposition groups in Syria began in 2011 and has resulted in over half a million deaths, displacement of millions, and significant damage to the country's economy.
