Iraq Sentences Widow of Late Islamic State Leader to Death

An Iraqi court has sentenced to death one of the wives of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the former leader of the Islamic State (ISIS), for her involvement in crimes committed against the Yazidi religious minority. The sentence was issued weeks before the 10-year anniversary of ISIS's launch of a series of attacks in Iraq and Syria. According to reports, the widow alleges that she was complicit in crimes committed against Yazidi women who were captured by the militant group.
