Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle is a royal residence in Berkshire, England, built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion by William the Conqueror. It has been used by the reigning monarch since the time of Henry I and is the longest-occupied palace in Europe. The castle features state apartments from the early 19th century described as a "superb and unrivalled sequence of rooms" and St George's Chapel, a 15th-century Gothic design considered a supreme achievement of English Perpendicular architecture. The castle has undergone numerous renovations, including a rebuild by Edward III and restoration by George III and George IV. It was used as a military headquarters and a prison during the English Civil War, and it survived a fire in 1992, with extensive restoration work following. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction and a venue for state visits, and it was the main residence of Elizabeth II from 2011 to 2022.learn more on wikipedia
