Whiteman Air Force Base
Whiteman Air Force Base, located near Knob Noster, Missouri, is the current home of the B-2 Spirit bomber. The base spans 5,566 acres and is maintained by the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron. It was established in 1942 as Sedalia Glider Base, a training facility for WACO glider pilots, and was later renamed Whiteman Air Force Base in honor of 2nd Lieutenant George A. Whiteman, who was killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The base transitioned from a bomber base to a missile base in 1963, housing the LGM-30 Minuteman and later the Minuteman II ICBMs, before phasing out the Minuteman II systems in 1995. In the 1980s, Whiteman AFB became the first missile base to field an all-female Minuteman missile crew, as well as the first male and female Minuteman crew. Today, the base is home to the B-2 Spirit bomber.learn more on wikipedia
