Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is an Anglican church in the City of Westminster, London, England, that has been the location of the coronations of 40 English and British monarchs and a burial site for 18 English, Scottish, and British monarchs since 1066. The church's origins are obscure, but it is believed to have been established by the 10th century with the first large building commissioned by King Edward the Confessor in the 1040s. The present church was built between 1245 and 1517 on the orders of Henry III, with the monastery being dissolved in 1559 and the church becoming a royal peculiar. The abbey's Gothic architecture is influenced by 13th-century French and English styles, and it is the burial site of over 3,300 people, including monarchs, prime ministers, poets laureate, and other notable figures in British history.learn more on wikipedia
