Uniform Code of Military Justice
The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) is the foundation of the military justice system in the United States, established by Congress in 1950 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on May 5, 1950. The UCMJ consolidated existing military law and introduced the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. It has undergone revisions and updates, including the introduction of rights-warning statements similar to Miranda warnings and the provision of qualified defense counsel to all accused without regard to indigence. The UCMJ has also evolved to mirror changes in the civilian criminal justice system, with the role of the military judge developing into a capacity similar to that of an Article III judge in a U.S. district court.learn more on wikipedia
