US Navy Memorial

The United States Navy Memorial is located on Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. and honors those who have served in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. It was envisioned by architect Pierre L'Enfant after the American Revolutionary War and was eventually dedicated on October 13, 1987, following years of planning and construction. The memorial's design was led by architects William Conklin and James Rossant and features a statue called "The Lone Sailor" which has become a symbol of the Navy's mission.
