Tuskegee Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots and airmen who fought in World War II, forming the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces. They trained at Tuskegee Army Air Fields and received praise for their excellent combat record, earning three Distinguished Unit Citations. The group was initially subjected to discrimination, but went on to become the first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces, with pilots flying P-40, P-39, P-47, and P-51 aircraft, earning the nickname "Red Tails" due to the distinctive red markings on their planes.learn more on wikipedia
