Tishreen Dam

The Tishrin Dam is a hydroelectric rock-fill dam on the Euphrates River in Syria, located 90 kilometers east of Aleppo. It is 40 meters high and has 6 turbines capable of producing 630 megawatts of power, with an annual production of 1.6 billion kilowatt hours. The dam's reservoir is 60 kilometers long and has a capacity of 1.3 cubic kilometers, making it smaller compared to Lake Assad downstream. The dam was constructed between 1991 and 1999, partly in response to the lower-than-expected power output of the Tabqa Dam. The Tishrin Dam reservoir has flooded archaeological sites, including Jerf el Ahmar, Jerablus Tahtani, and Tell Ahmar, which were excavated before the dam was completed.
