Thitu Island
Thitu Island, also known as Pag-asa Island, is a 37.2-hectare island located in the Spratly Islands, 500 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa, Philippines. It is the second-largest naturally occurring island in the Spratlys and serves as the administrative center of the Kalayaan municipality of Palawan province. The island is administered by the Philippines and has a permanent civilian settlement, including an airstrip, a lighthouse, a clinic, and a school. China, Taiwan, and Vietnam also claim the island. Thitu Island has a rich history, with historical records of habitation by fishermen and military troops from various countries, including Champa, China, France, and Japan. In 1971, the Philippines seized the island from Taiwan following a storm, and in 2020, a new sheltered port and harbor were built.learn more on wikipedia
