Nazi Germany, officially the German Reich, existed from 1933 to 1945 and was a totalitarian dictatorship led by Adolf Hitler. The Third Reich, as it was known, was the successor to the earlier Holy Roman Empire and German Empire, and ended in May 1945 after 12 years of power, when the Allies defeated Germany and entered the capital, Berlin, ending World War II in Europe.
