Thames River
The River Thames is a 215-mile-long river in southern England that flows through the city of London and into the North Sea. The river rises in Gloucestershire and has a number of tributaries, including the River Isis in Oxford, which is sometimes referred to as the River Thames. The river has a tidal section that includes most of its London stretch and has a rise and fall of 23 feet. The Thames has a relatively low discharge considering its length and breadth, with an average discharge of around 65 cubic meters per second. The river supports a variety of wildlife and has a number of adjoining Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The name "Thames" is derived from the Brittonic name for the river, Tamesas, which is recorded in Latin as Tamesis and yields modern Welsh Tafwys "Thames". The origin of the name is shared by many other river names in Britain.learn more on wikipedia
