Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments, also known as the Decalogue, are a set of religious and ethical directives given by YHWH to Moses according to the Hebrew Bible. They appear in three distinct versions in the Bible: Exodus 20:2-17, Deuteronomy 5:6-21, and the "Ritual Decalogue" of Exodus 34:11-26. The commandments were revealed to Moses at Mount Sinai, inscribed by the finger of God on two tablets of stone, and were told to the Israelites by Moses. Scholars disagree on the date and authorship of the Ten Commandments, with some drawing comparisons to Hittite and Mesopotamian laws and treaties. The term "Decalogue" comes from the Greek word for "ten words", which is derived from the Hebrew term "the ten words" or "the ten matters". The biblical narrative describes the revelation at Sinai as a dramatic event where God spoke to the people, and Moses went up to receive the commandments and wrote them down in the book of the covenant.learn more on wikipedia
