Suez crisis
The Suez Crisis was a British-French-Israeli invasion of Egypt in 1956, prompted by Israel's objective to re-open the Straits of Tiran and the Gulf of Aqaba, and the UK and France's desire to depose Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser and regain control of the Suez Canal, which Nasser had nationalized. The invasion was met with heavy political pressure from the US, the Soviet Union, and the United Nations, leading to the withdrawal of the three countries from Egypt.
