Star Spangled Banner
The Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States, with lyrics written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith and became a popular patriotic song in the United States. The song was first recognized for official use by the United States Navy in 1889 and became the official national anthem of the United States on March 3, 1931, when President Herbert Hoover signed a joint resolution into law. The song has a range of 19 semitones and is known for being difficult to sing, particularly the soprano part. Only the first stanza of the poem is commonly sung today.learn more on wikipedia
