Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was a transcontinental country that existed from 1922 to 1991, spanning much of Eurasia and being the largest country by area. It was a federal union of 15 national republics, with the Russian SFSR being the largest and most populous, and was governed by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union's roots lay in the October Revolution of 1917, which led to the establishment of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, and it played a decisive role in defeating the Axis powers in World War II, suffering an estimated 27 million casualties. After the war, the Soviet Union consolidated its territory, formed satellite states, and undertook rapid economic development, cementing its status as a superpower. The country was marked by significant events such as the Great Purge, the forced labour camp system of the Gulag, and the Space Race, and was characterized by a highly centralized government and economy.learn more on wikipedia
