Sound of Music
The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The story takes place in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938 and revolves around Maria, a young nun who becomes the governess to a large family, falls in love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp, and helps him and his family to escape from Austria. The musical features many famous songs, including "Do-Re-Mi", "My Favorite Things", "Edelweiss", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and the title song "The Sound of Music". The original Broadway production opened in 1959 and won five Tony Awards, and the musical was later adapted into a 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The show has undergone numerous productions and revivals since then.learn more on wikipedia
