Society of the Snow

The film Society of the Snow is a 2023 survival drama directed by J. A. Bayona, based on Pablo Vierci's 2009 book of the same name. The film tells the true story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972, killing 16 of the 45 passengers on board. The surviving passengers, mostly members of the Old Christians Club rugby team, were forced to resort to cannibalism to stay alive, but instead turned to each other for support and cooperation. The film was produced on a budget of over €65 million and features a cast of mostly Uruguayan and Argentine actors, many of whom were newcomers.
