Snowy Mountains
The Snowy Mountains are an IBRA subregion in southern New South Wales, Australia, and the tallest mountain range in mainland Australia. They contain Australia's five tallest peaks, including Mount Kosciuszko, which stands at 2,228 meters (7,310 ft) above sea level. The region experiences significant snowfall during the winter months, making it a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding, and is home to four major snow resorts. The Snowy Mountains have a rich history, with Aboriginal occupation dating back 20,000 years, and were first explored by Europeans in 1835. The area was once home to a thriving gold mining industry, and the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme in the mid-20th century brought many European workers to the district and helped to establish the region as a major center for skiing and snow sports.learn more on wikipedia
