Simbang Gabi

Simbang Gabi is a nine-day series of Masses attended by Filipino Catholics in anticipation of Christmas, similar to the nine dawn Masses in Puerto Rico. It originated in 1669 as a practical compromise for farmers who started working before sunrise, and eventually became a distinct feature of Philippine culture.
