Siberut Island
Siberut is the largest and northernmost of the Mentawai Islands, located in the Indian Ocean, with an area of 3,838.25 km2 and a population of 41,899 as of mid 2023. The island is known for its rainforest and is home to a range of primates, including the Kloss gibbon and the Mentawai macaque. The island has a hot and humid tropical rainforest climate with an annual rainfall of 4,000 mm and temperatures ranging from 22 to 31°C. Siberut has been recognized as a biosphere reserve and has a national park covering an area of 1,905 square kilometres. The island is subject to commercial logging, with about 70% of the remaining forest outside the reserve being logged. The island has a unique biodiversity with about 900 species of vascular plants and 31 mammal species, with many species being endemic to the island.learn more on wikipedia
