Shergar
ai generated text
Shergar was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse foaled on 3 March 1978. He was sired by Great Nephew and his dam was Sharmeen, a descendant of Mumtaz Mahal. Shergar was trained in Britain by Michael Stoute and had a successful season in 1981, winning five of six races including the Epsom Derby by a record ten lengths. After the Epsom Derby win, his owner the Aga Khan sold 40 shares in the horse for £10 million. Shergar was stolen from the Ballymany Stud in Ireland in 1983, and a ransom of £2 million was demanded but not paid. A supergrass claimed that the IRA stole the horse, but no arrests were made and Shergar's body was never recovered.learn more on wikipedia
