Sepik River

The Sepik is the longest river on New Guinea island, and the third largest in Oceania by discharge volume. It flows through Papua New Guinea provinces of Sandaun and East Sepik, with a small section in Indonesian province of Papua. The river has a large catchment area with various landforms, including swamplands, tropical rainforests, and mountains. The river system is considered to be one of the largest uncontaminated freshwater wetland systems in the Asia-Pacific region, with numerous fish and plant species. The Sepik originates in the Victor Emanuel Range in central highlands of Papua New Guinea and flows north-west, then turns back north-east, following the Central Depression.
