Second Intifada
The Second Intifada, also known as the Al-Aqsa Intifada, was a major uprising by Palestinians against Israel that began in 2000 and ended in 2005. The conflict was sparked by the failure of the 2000 Camp David Summit and Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount in September 2000, which led to a surge in violence. The Intifada resulted in the deaths of approximately 3,000 Palestinians and 1,000 Israelis, as well as 64 foreign nationals, and was marked by a significant number of suicide bombings carried out by Palestinian militant factions. The conflict ended with the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit of 2005, in which Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon agreed to take steps to de-escalate hostilities and reaffirmed their commitment to the "roadmap for peace."learn more on wikipedia
