Sea Of Okhotsk
The Sea of Okhotsk is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean located between Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula and the island of Sakhalin, as well as the Kuril Islands and Japan's island of Hokkaido. It covers an area of approximately 1,583,000 square kilometers with a mean depth of 859 meters. The sea is connected to the Sea of Japan through the Sakhalin Gulf and the La Pérouse Strait, and its navigation is impeded by ice floes in winter due to freshwater input from the Amur River. The Sea of Okhotsk has warmed by up to 3°C since preindustrial times, affecting sea ice formation and driving fish populations north. The sea is surrounded by territory administered by the Russian Federation, with the exception of Hokkaido, and has been home to various cultures including the Okhotsk culture and the Ainu people.learn more on wikipedia
