Scorpene

The Scorpène-class submarines are a class of diesel-electric attack submarines jointly developed by the French Naval Group and the Spanish company Navantia. They feature diesel propulsion and an additional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, which enables them to operate for more than 21 days underwater. The submarines have three subtypes, with the Chilean and Malaysian boats fitted with the TSM 2233 Mk 2 sonar, and can also be equipped with a 'S-Cube' sonar suite from Thales. A complaint was filed by Naval Group against The Australian newspaper for releasing confidential information about the submarines, and the newspaper was eventually banned from releasing further data.
