Schutzstaffel

The Schutzstaffel (SS), also stylized with Armanen runes as ᛋᛋ, was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany and German-occupied Europe during World War II. It began as a small guard unit known as the Saal-Schutz in 1923 and was reformed and given its final name in 1925 under the direction of Heinrich Himmler.
