Saint Augustine

Augustine of Hippo was a theologian and philosopher of Berber origin and the bishop of Hippo Regius in Numidia, Roman North Africa, born on November 13, 354. He was drawn to the Manichaean faith and Hellenistic philosophy of Neoplatonism in his youth, but after his conversion to Christianity and baptism in 386, he developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, which included the doctrine of original sin and just war theory.
