Sagaing Fault
The Sagaing Fault is a major fault in Myanmar that stretches for over 1200 kilometers, linking the divergent boundary in the Andaman Sea with the zone of active continental collision along the Himalayan front. It was first partially visualized by geologist Fritz Noetling in 1900 and was later confirmed by various studies, including one by Win Swe in 1970, who named it the "Sagaing Fault". The fault has a relatively low topographical relief and has a strike-slip mechanism, with a total displacement of 203 kilometers and a slip rate of 22 millimeters per year. It passes through several populated cities and is responsible for a number of significant earthquakes, including one with a magnitude of 7.4 in 1930.
