Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta
The Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta is a large inland river delta and estuary in Northern California, spanning approximately 1,100 square miles. It is formed by the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and lies east of where the rivers enter Suisun Bay, which flows into San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The delta has a population of around 500,000 people and covers an area of nearly 1,100 square miles, including land and water. Its geography is characterized by 57 reclaimed islands, over 1,100 miles of levees, and 700 miles of waterways. The delta plays a crucial role in water supply, with much of the region's water being derived from the delta via pumps at the southern end, serving Central and Southern California.learn more on wikipedia
