SCOTUS
The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the federal judiciary, with ultimate appellate jurisdiction over all federal court cases and state court cases involving U.S. constitutional or federal law. It also has original jurisdiction in cases affecting ambassadors, public ministers, and consuls, and those in which a state is a party. The court has the power of judicial review, asserted in the landmark case Marbury v. Madison, and can strike down presidential directives for violating the Constitution or statutory law. The court is composed of nine justices, the chief justice and eight associate justices, who have lifetime tenure and meet at the Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C. The president, with Senate advice and consent, appoints new justices, and each justice has a single vote in deciding cases. On average, the court receives 7,000 petitions for writs of certiorari each year, but only grants about 80.learn more on wikipedia
