Rock & Roll
Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that originated in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s, evolving from African American music styles such as jazz, rhythm and blues, boogie-woogie, electric blues, gospel, and jump blues, as well as country music. The genre's formative elements can be heard in blues records from the 1920s and country records of the 1930s. The name "rock and roll" was not used until 1954. Classic rock and roll is typically played with electric guitars, a double bass, and a snare drum, and had a profound influence on American lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, and language. The term "rock and roll" is sometimes used synonymously with "rock music" and has its roots in the phrase "rocking and rolling," which originally described a ship's movement on the ocean and later became associated with spiritual fervor and sexual connotations.learn more on wikipedia
