River Tyne
The River Tyne is a river in North East England, 73 miles (118 km) long, formed by the confluence of the North Tyne and South Tyne rivers near Hexham in Northumberland. The River Tyne catchment is 2,936 km2 (1,134 square miles) and includes 4,399 km (2,733 miles) of waterways. The river flows east through Northumberland and into the county of Tyne and Wear, forming the boundary between Newcastle upon Tyne and the Borough of Gateshead before flowing into the North Sea. The river has undergone significant changes over the past 30 million years, including a shift in course and changes in its tributaries. Conservation efforts have been made to protect the river, with various bodies handling its conservation over the past 500 years, including the Tyne Improvement Commission which laid the foundations for the modern Port of Tyne and dredged over 150 million tonnes from the river.learn more on wikipedia
