River Taff
The River Taff is a river in Wales that rises in the Brecon Beacons as two rivers, the Taf Fechan and the Taf Fawr, which merge just north of Merthyr Tydfil. It flows south through several towns, including Pontypridd and Taff's Well, and picks up tributaries such as the River Cynon and River Rhondda. The river supports several species of migratory fish, including salmon and sea trout. It flows underneath the M4 Motorway and through the suburbs of Cardiff before emptying into Cardiff Bay. The Taf Fawr is the longer and more northerly of the two rivers that merge to form the River Taff, and it flows through a steep-sided valley. The catchment of the upper Taf Fawr was 10,400 acres and was split into an upper and lower area, with compensation water provided to maintain the flow in the river. The construction of three reservoirs in the catchment took place between 1886 and 1927, with the last reservoir, Llwyn-on, being commissioned in May 1927.learn more on wikipedia
