Place De La République
The Place de la République is a square in Paris, located on the border of the 3rd, 10th, and 11th arrondissements, with an area of 3.4 hectares. It was originally called the Place du Château d'Eau and was named after a fountain built in 1811, which was later replaced by a more impressive fountain in 1867. The square was renovated in 2010-2013 to transform it into a pedestrian zone, with 70% of the area reserved for pedestrians. The renovation included the cleaning of the statue of Marianne, the personification of France, which sits atop the Monument à la République, a 75-foot-high monument. The square has been the site of several large demonstrations, including those following the 2015 terrorist attacks and the 2016 Nuit debout movement, and has also been the location of clashes between protesters and authorities during the Yellow Vest protests in 2019.learn more on wikipedia
