Ping River
The Ping River originates at Doi Thuai in the Daen Lao Range, in Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai province, and flows through the provinces of Lamphun, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet before merging with the Nan River to form the Chao Phraya River. The river's history dates back to 1500 BCE, with evidence of habitation and trading routes between Yunnan and the Chao Phraya basin. In the 13th century, Mengrai created an alternative "silk road" along the river, and later the Ping River became a part of Siam in the 20th century, with Chinese and foreign investors, missionaries, and land repurposing along its banks. The Ping Basin is one of the largest drainage basins of the Chao Phraya Watershed, draining 33,896 square kilometers of land, and is home to several national parks, including Huai Nam Dang and Mae Ping National Park.learn more on wikipedia
