Peloponnese Peninsula
The Peloponnese is a peninsula and geographic region in Southern Greece, covering an area of 21,549.6 square kilometers and located at the southern tip of the mainland. It is connected to the central part of the country by the Isthmus of Corinth and is divided among three administrative regions: the Peloponnese region, West Greece, and Attica. The peninsula has a mountainous interior and extensive lowlands, with several south-pointing peninsulas and four major mountains: Taygetus, Cyllene, Aroania, and Parnon. The Peloponnese is earthquake-prone and has been the site of many earthquakes in the past. The longest river is the Alfeios in the west, followed by the Evrotas in the south and the Pineios in the west. The peninsula is home to numerous beaches and has an indented coastline, with several islands off its coast, including the Argo-Saronic and Ionian Islands. The Peloponnese has been divided into seven major regions since antiquity, each headed by a city, with Patras being the largest city. The peninsula enjoys a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, with average annual temperatures reaching up to 20.3°C and summer highs reaching over 36.0°C.learn more on wikipedia
