Paris Marathon

The Paris Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by the city of Paris, France, and is the largest running event in France in terms of finishers. The marathon begins along the Champs-Élysées and runs through the city to the Bois de Vincennes, before heading back through the city along the River Seine and finishing on Avenue Foch. The first Paris Marathon, the Tour de Paris Marathon, took place in 1896 and was won by Len Hurst from England with a time of 2 hours, 31 minutes and 30 seconds. The present Paris Marathon dates from 1976 and is normally held on a Sunday in April, with a limit of 50,000 runners. In 2024, the marathon had 53,899 finishers, setting a new world record for the largest marathon in the world.
