It was built in 1562 by Giacomo della Porta and underwent numerous renovations and expansions over the centuries, including a major restoration in 1999. The palace has been the residence of several high-ranking officials, including the Austro-Hungarian Ambassador to Italy and the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Notable events have taken place at the palace, including a concert by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1770 and a shooting incident in 2013.
