Padma Bhushan
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in India, instituted on January 2, 1954, and given for distinguished service of a high order without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex. The award is conferred on individuals, including doctors and scientists, who have rendered service in any field, excluding those working with public sector undertakings, with the Prime Minister and President approving the recommendations submitted by the Padma Awards Committee. As of 2020, 1270 individuals have received the award, including 24 posthumous and 97 non-citizen recipients, with 17 people receiving it in 2022. The award has been briefly suspended twice, first from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1992 to 1995, due to public-interest litigations questioning its validity under Article 18 of the Constitution of India.learn more on wikipedia
