Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman Empire was an imperial realm that controlled much of Southeast Europe, West Asia, and North Africa from the 14th to early 20th centuries. It emerged from a principality founded by Osman I in northwestern Anatolia in 1299 and expanded into the Balkans and the Middle East under the leadership of Suleiman the Magnificent, becoming a major regional power. The empire reached its zenith under Suleiman, with a strong economy, society, and military, but declined in the 18th century due to military defeats and internal conflicts, leading to the loss of territory and global prestige. The Ottomans attempted constitutional monarchy and modernization in the 19th century, but ultimately joined World War I on the side of the Central Powers and engaged in genocide against various minority groups. After the war, the Ottoman Empire was occupied and partitioned by the Allied Powers, leading to the emergence of the Republic of Turkey and the abolition of the Ottoman monarchy in 1922.learn more on wikipedia
