Oplontis

Oplontis is an ancient Roman archaeological site in the town of Torre Annunziata, south of Naples, Italy. It was buried in ash during the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, with the force of the eruption being even stronger than in nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum. The site comprises two Roman villas, including the well-known Villa A, also known as Villa Poppaea, and has yielded many important finds, including a Roman bath complex, frescoes, mosaics, and marble statues. Excavations at Oplontis have been ongoing since the 16th century, with significant finds being made in the 19th and 20th centuries, and a "Friends of Oplontis" committee was established in 1962 to promote the site.learn more on wikipedia
