Omaha Beach
The Omaha Beach invasion was a part of the Operation Overlord amphibious assault during the Second World War. It occurred on June 6, 1944, and involved the landing of the 29th Infantry Division and the 1st Infantry Division on a 5-mile section of the Normandy coast in France. The objective was to secure a beachhead 8 kilometers deep and link up with British forces at Gold and American forces at Utah. The German 352nd Infantry Division defended the area, and the initial assault waves faced unexpected strong defenses, leading to significant casualties. Despite difficulties in navigation and clearing beach obstacles, small penetrations were eventually achieved, allowing the Allies to achieve their objectives over the following days.learn more on wikipedia
