Oceanic whitetip shark

The oceanic whitetip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) is a large pelagic requiem shark inhabiting tropical and warm temperate seas, characterized by its stocky body with long, white-tipped, rounded fins. It is typically solitary, but gathers in large numbers at food concentrations, feeding on bony fish and cephalopods, and giving live birth. The species is considered critically endangered due to steeply declining populations as a result of overfishing for its fins and meat.
