North Sentinel Island

North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, India, home to the Sentinelese, an indigenous tribe in voluntary isolation. The island is approximately 60 square kilometers in size, and its residents have defended their isolation from the outside world, often by force. The Indian government has prohibited travel to the island and established a five-nautical-mile buffer zone to protect the tribe from infectious diseases. The Sentinelese have repeatedly attacked approaching vessels, resulting in injury and death, and have been observed shooting arrows at boats and helicopters.
